Just wondering if anyone else has noticed that granulated sugar seems to have something added to it. Almost a powdery substance. I've noticed it a little in the Dixie Crystals, which I usually use, but I bought a store brand that said pure cane extra fine granulated and the store brand released a cloud in my kitchen when I sifted it. Had never had sugar do that before. Anyone know what's going on with this?

Maybe it has corn starch powder in it to prevent clumping?

By law they have to include all ingredients. I would suspect you got a batch that was transitioning from powdered to granulated?

I really doubt that everything was added.  Sugar crystals rub against each other, so depending on where the batch came from in the rail car, how much is was thrown around, etc. it will degrade further, creating some dust.  That's all that's happened.

I think I agree with maybenot - sort of:)   I think you just got a bad batch    I’ve heard from people who worked in factories that store brands are often *exactly* the same as brand names   When a ‘run’ is finished and there is still product left it is finished off/packaged into off brands or store brands   I’ve heard that about butter & canned goods, catsup etc

I have noticed no differences.
