This looks like a group that might be able to help me figure a few things out.  Our Vacation Bible School craft crew wants to have the kids make Lion Cookie Pops on the last day.  I think I've figured out the process (pre-dip the cookies in yellow, then the kids will add eyes, orange mane and face).  I have a couple of questions:

-Best Cookie to buy?  Can I use the Oreos from Costco or are the double stuffed better?

-We need to cover about 200 cookies.  What quantity of yellow melts do I need to buy?

-Will Lolipop sticks work ok?

-Best way to do the face.  I'm thinking of trying black markers rather than decorating gel?

I'd appreciate any advice you all have!!

Thanks so much!

Interesting:)   The sucker sticks should work just fine with double stuffed  & the marker is another good idea  sorry no idea how much candy melts to suggest

this is some brainstorming and some recommendations -- cafeteria style -- take it or leave it -- just random ideas --

I would suggest buying a bag of melts and testing it out -- then do the math and go purchase your quantity -- I mean depends on how hot the choco is -- how big/thick the cookie is --

so are these going home with them? seems messy -- are they doing them first thing in the morning then letting them set up and take them home -- maybe the workers could bag them for them? the oreo with chocolate coating already has that icing in there and that is quite a sugar buzz -- in my experience not all the kids will devour them readily -- or they need a little paper plate --

also I think a 2" or 3" sugar cookie pasted with the choco onto a bit bigger cardboard circle or paper plate or muffin wrapper would work and have a bit bigger surface area for the mane  but what do I know -- but that's not exactly a cookie pop -- but also needs to be bagged -- but the kids could bag the ones in muffin wrappers -- depending on how old they are too -- you could even do a chocolate chip cookie or oatmeal and use the bottom of the cookie on top to have the flat surface for the design --

my favorite icing working with kids is royal -- no grease -- easier clean up but a little bit more care with it -- so it doesn't set up prematurely --

edible ink marker is a great idea for the face then I would use grass tips to let them pipe the mane -- but geez for 200? all at once or at staggered times? anyway you could use parchment paper cones and cut a leaf tip on the end to pipe on the manes -- and you do need a bit of finesse doing the markers -- a gentle touch --

you could also have eyeballs already made -- maybe the mouths & noses too -- could be piped in advance in royal and once they set up the kids could just grab them and put a dot of icing on the cookie and place the face pieces -- maybe a few teeth too -- rahr what about lion ears?
