I am New to the forum...have a wedding to do and needing to know how to decorate a cake dummy in buttercream.  Have to do a 5 tiered cake and can use all the help and suggestions possible.  Does the buttercream need to be stiffer?  Do i prep the cake dummy with anything? Will the buttercream crack after a couple days..(would like to do the dummy cake up early 5 days ahead...??  What is best way to hold the cake dummy so it doesn't move when I am frosting it....... Is frosting it in royal icing a better way to go?   Will be stenciling dmask on one of the tiers.  Putting a diamond pattern on another.. etc.

Thank you in advance for your help!!

Welcome —we are glad to have you join us:)   No need for stiffer- treat the dummy as if a real cake  No prep needed   Make yourself a stabilizing board by putting a couple of nails in a cake board then turn it over & push the dummy on; put some non-skid under it & proceed as if a real cake   B’cream “cakes” will last up to a year   I have done dozns &  dzns of them almost all in b’cream so See no need for royal besides royal is harder to remove    All you need is to let the icing dry overnight before stenciling   Maybe not even that long
