While running your cake business from home, How many of you bakers openly say you make cakes from cake mix?
I would say that I used the best ingredients for the job — to me, white cake mix was the best for tier cakes which the majority of my weddings were white cake that I doctored white cake mix for -/
to me it was best to avoid the whole cake mix versus scratch thing at point of sale — typically that discussion brings nothing but trouble -
I use doctored cake mixes and lots of scratch recipes both. It would never enter my mind to tell the customer my recipe, one way or another. They don't care, as long as it is delicious.
With K8 Can’t remember the subject coming up—probably did —just don’t remember it Since I eventually had 2 different bakeries over many years seldom did it ever come up Since I developed the WASc recipe I just said something along the lines of “I start w/a mix then add lots of love & delicious ingredients “ Can’ t recall anyone not ordering because of using mixes
I agree with all of the above. I do a lot of both and never thought to bring it up... it’s always just the best recipe for the type of cake they order. So far, I’ve never had anyone ask, complain, or be able to tell the difference :).
