It was bound to happen, odds are the more cakes you make, something is eventually going to go wrong. I made a wedding cake, wedding was yesterday. The bride coordinated with the florist to provide me with real flowers to go on the three tiers of the wedding cake. I spoke to the florist over the phone and we agreed on how many flowers she would order for me and where I could pick them up. The flowers were supposed to be at the church in a little side room with a note on them containing my name and that they were for the cake. NOT to move them. When I arrived to get the flowers, they were not there! I called the florist (who works out of her home) and spent 30 minutes trying to track her down. There were several people in the area of the church, including the bride's mother and brother. Neither of them had seen them nor moved them the flowers. Long story, short...I took the flowers that were hanging on the church pews and "winged" it!
The cake was supposed to have large stargazer lilies and lots of them in between the tiers. I was able to salvage 2. I had a handful of little orchids and a few filler flowers. I'm just sick! I feel SO bad for the bride. This cake was not at all what she ordered from me. I know it was out of my hands and there was nothing else I could do, but I still feel terrible. What I want to do is call the florist and blast her, but I probably won't. I hate that when I look at this picture I get sick ...I hate it....
Thanks for listening......

You made a awesome save under the circumstances. Cake looks lovely. It’s probably a good thing you didn’t phone and blast the florist, that’s the brides job. And as kakeladi posted, family members know from your inquiries that the flowers were not there. Did you ever ascertain if the florist actually did deliver the flowers for the cake? Because it is possible someone from the church could possibly have moved them. You would be surprised what a church custodian might do.
yeah idk -- i mean you did great -- you saved the day -- it was a duet there and your partner didn't show so -- you still win -- sorry that upset you -- i always had my florists leave the flowers at or under the cake table -- thankfully never had a problem --
really pretty cake nonetheless
Thank you all for your sweet words. I've taken some deep breaths and I do feel better. I'll get over it. As for the florist, I did call her and let her know in the nicest way possible that the flowers were not where we agreed they would be. She did take full responsibility, which I knew she would...she's a very, very nice lady. So, what is done is done, next time I'll be sure that I'm personally in possession of the flowers at least by the day before the wedding.
Stay Sweet!

Well mrsmac888/Christina
The cake looked lovely, and positive it tasted great. And I’m sure, although not exactly how the bride envisioned, she was still pleased with how the cake looked. I sure would have. As my Mom use to say to me many, many times, in 5 years, no one will remember, or care, and in 10 years it will be a long distant memory. That use to put everything into perspective.
