How do you calculate your delivery fee?

The cake this weekend will be a decent ride - 3 hours round trip.  Probably a little more on the way there as I drive cautiously when delivering.

About 160 miles round trip.

Thanks

Change what triple A figures it costs to drive per mile   I don’t know what that is right now   Be sure you charge for round trip    I never did charge:(   My thoughts back then was I didn’t want just anybody delivering & setting up — that it was part of making a wedding cake   If you have a problem actually asking for that much remember with a delivery like that you are limiting how many orders you can do For me if I  remember right the most I did in one weekend was 6 or 7  - one b’day Friday, 4 weddings Sat, & one more large b’day on Sunday   It nearly killed me:)

I would be charging right around 120.00. That is the cost of gas, my time, and ware and tare on my vehicle. That cost might be a bit cheaper if you drive a more energy efficient vehicle, but I'm accounting for my big, gas guzzling passenger van.

I've never delivered unless it was for a wedding in town. My out of town weddings have had someone pick up the cake. I don't do a ton of weddings though, so maybe that's why. I've never even had someone ask for delivery, except for someone ordering from out of state for a 90-year old man in town, because he doesn't drive. I don't advertise for weddings though, that's probably why, I take them as they come, but they stress me out too much. :)

I hadn’t even considered the depreciation on the vehicle!  Excellent point.

I’m also accounting for the time to set it up there and travel back.

Thanks!

Well maybe I spoke too soon.

If I go solely by the price of gas that’s just under $14.50.  Not including the cost of the time for setting it up.

I think 5 hours out of my day is worth more than $25.

Maybe the cents per mile is better!

Definitely go cents per mile! $25.00, they would have to come get it lol At that price, you're making $5.00 per hour!

i never charged for set up that’s included in the cost of the cake — that is a substantial delivery distance — $150 to $200 is not at all out of the question — and that’s probably low balling it anyway

but gosh I tell yah what’s the truth — delivering wedding cakes on a saturday and getting to be a behind the scenes part of the momentous celebration when all that fresh love will culminate in so many different ways — as  so many families and friends dressed in their finest watching quietly and waiting — gradually gathering in that ethereal electric atmosphere hovering on the dial somewhere between somber and fantasy — mmm — the florists, djs and caterers all scurrying around — the smells, sights, lights plus ribbons, linens, finery and flowers creating for a moment in time the elegantly romantic scene is a total thrill beyond measure — especially when the deliveries repeat throughout the day — the sensations build — it’s a pure joy to be a part of that — a new family being presented officially into the world — love love loved being a spoke in that wheel —

In the US, the IRS says it is 58 cents per mile for the car (2019 rate) , insurance, gas, wear and tear. But that is car only, so add your time.

If I travel 60 miles per hour and my wage is (only) $15/ hour...that's another 25 cents per mile (obviously affected by what I pay myself per hour and what traffic/ speed I travel.

AND you charge in both directions....
