Hey,

So I need to use fake flowers on a cake. I have seen that people usually use silk flowers when using artificial flowers on cake. I want to know, can I use the fake flowers you would get from like Dollar Tree?

I don't think they are silk, It says that the material is plastic, polyester.

Would they work just as fine as silk flowers?

Thank you

The only thing I would be concerned about is what possible cancer causing “junk “ could be on them    Is there some way to make sure they don’t touch the cake?

Exactly what kakeladi said!  Personally, I prefer to use sugar flowers because I know they are safe.  With anything else, including real flowers, I try to make sure they do not touch the cake at all....stems inserted into straws, a layer of plastic wrap between the blooms and the surface of the cake.  My own wedding cake (ordered by my future mother-in-law because she thought it was scandalous for me to make my own wedding cake), while absolutely scrumptious, was decorated with real roses and ferns.  We picked ferns out of our teeth for days!  I've had an adversion to anything touching my cake ever since!

If you put a barrier between the cake and the artificial flowers so they don’t touch the cake, then your safe. You can buy little flower holders from a florist shop, or Michael’s craft store to insert your flowers into.

Thank you so much for all your replies.

I will probably just have to figure out a way to make sure the flowers don't touch the cake

Wish me Luck!

Thanks
