I’m getting into baking and cake decorating a lot and the pans I’m using at the moment are 8 inch and are 3 inches deep. I’m wondering how I can get my cake layers to become more thicker, as I usually add half a teaspoon of baking powder and a quarter teaspoon of baking soda? Do let me know, thank you!

3” pans are usually filled 1/2 full of batter   Then you can split them for adding filling   A second one is added with filling between the two -so now you have a cake known as a tier that is about 5 or 6” tall

The amount of leavening I use depends upon the recipe and it varies quite a bit.  1/2 teaspoon of baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon of basing soda sounds like a very minimal amount for most cake recipes.

I use 3" pans, fill them half full and they bake into 2" tall layers, which I torte to 1".
