I'm a hobby baker, making cakes for my own pleasure (at the moment) - when someone close to me has a birthday or other celebration I'll make a cake for them, but I want to make more cakes!
So, my plan is to make at least one cake per month just for fun - a chance to learn new techniques, perfect old techniques, try new recipes etc.
Here's where you come in. I'm looking for suggestions for each month. I'm thinking something Valentine's themed for February, and might buy some Russian tips to pipe bouquets on cupcakes for my colleagues at work. Any suggestions for other months?
I can't reply to posts yet, so thanks in advance for any comments :-)
Hi! I’m sure many people will say St. Patrick’s Day for March but May I suggest Mardi Gras themes? Fun colors, you can practice with fondant or icing making beads, simple masks and other things in purple, gold and green. I’m already receiving orders for king cakes ...those are fun, too but they involve extra time for dough rise.
Have fun with your Valentine bakes!
MerMadeBakedGoods, I made a King Cake a few days ago, just for my husband and I, but I forgot to put in the dumb baby!
Ha! Oh no! Sandra, something tells me your husband didn’t mind one bit :) I’m sure it was deeeeelicious!
I love it for breakfast, sort of like a coffee cake. I like to put in lots of filling.
bleary, the first day of spring is March 20th, so daffodils, cherry blossoms, and other spring flowers are frequently used. Peter Rabbit is a popular theme for Easter, as are colored eggs, crosses, and spring flowers. The fourth of July is obvious, various flag designs.
Graduation theme for May; tropical flowers, primary colors, and swimming pool theme for June, July and August, fall colors and flowers for September, Halloween theme for October, Turkeys, fall colors, cornucopia, for November; winter, snow, skiing, Christmas for December.
