Does anyone recognize this buttercream texture/finish technique? How do I achieve this? What tools or equipment to recreate this look?! Thank you!!!!Help! Buttercream Experts

I’m not an expert but I think the knitted sections might be created using a texture mat. I guess it would work on a crusted buttercream.

Unless it is a texture mat, as louglou said, I have no idea.

The picture is not clear so it's hard to say.  Maybe there are little dots of icing (tube #3?) that are then indented w/a round tool?  OR it really looks to me like those are from fondant molds placed over a b'creamed cake.

You know, since you mentioned it Lynne, there is a possibility that the decorator piped vertical lines on the cake and used some sort of tool, like a medium sized ball tool, to create the dimples which make the cake looked knitted - maybe???

It does look like buttercream vs. fondant.  Is it possible the baker found a creative way to use the rolling cutter/embosser tool on a crusted buttercream??
