Hello,

I just took Craftys class to learn yellow Chiffon Cake and just baked it turned out so well.  Can I add gel food color to make variations of different color.\

Egg whites and yolks both have been used additional to oil in the recipe.

Thank you!

Of course.  Since the egg yolks are used and the cake is yellow naturally, it will work best if you use colors like green and orange, which already contain yellow.  It would be hard to achieve a pretty pink or purple starting with a yellow base.

I'm not familure w/Crafty recipes but I'm guessing there would be no proble using my WASC recipe. The batter can be dyed any color you want.  Just remember for the most part many colors lighten and turn slightly brownish when baked.

If you want to get true pinks, light blue or light purple, you should make a white cake.  To make a white cake, just use egg whites instead of the whole egg. If the recipe calls for three whole eggs, use six egg whites.  If you are making dark, bright colors, the yellow doesn't matter.  I've made a rainbow tiered cake with a recipe that  uses whole eggs and it worked fine, but requires a ton of food coloring.

Hello Sandra,

The recipe called for eight eggs... separated off course yellow and white........ it filled two cake 9" pans.

I do not know If I can make two colors by following the recipe skipping yolks and doubling the egg whites.

Thanks!

I have never heard of a cake recipe that uses eight eggs for two 9" layers!  Most use only four at the most and generally three.
