When I read stories like Bmarco I am soooo very glad I didn't get into this until my girls were late teens.  I don't see how one can be so creative when they are under so much stress of having to work almost all night and deal w/fussy kids too.

I should include.... I was divorced a few years ago and used this as a way to fill my time when the kids went to their father's house - it was good to keep my mind busy while being in the empty house.  My rule now is that I do not do projects on the nights when they are home... "sometimes" I do, but most often I don't - which cuts down on the stress of it.

And there are a lot of times during  a project when things all come together and you love being in that creative zone.  I always say, after 11pm, the kitchen is like a casino.... I lose track of all time.  Put some music on, the rest of the world sleeps and I get time to just create.

Lastly, I'm an attorney, so I desperately need the creative time (!)

I did cakes when my children were small until earky elementary school. Then I went back to work. I didn't start up again till my neice & daughter got married. By then I had cut back my hours to pretty much part time. So making and selling were manageable.

I am retired and I still do not want to do too  many cakes or collaborations.  I already  had my share of stress and don't plan to have anymore!
