Hello.. I will be doing my 1st bridal expo this Feb.. I would like to know if you can cover and decorate cake dummies with royal icing or would it be best to cover them in fondant then decorate them with royal icing . Or is there any other way to decorate that they will keep? Thank you

You can cover them in just about anything you want. A good crusting buttercream would work. If you plan to keep them for a long time, though, you might consider using joint compound for drywalling. It spreads on like buttercream, dries white (you can color it beforehand or paint it when it's dry) and after it's dry you can sand it smooth. I've never tried to pipe with it so I don't know how that would work.
The leader of our local cake club has a demo cake covered and decorated in RI that she's had for years and it still looks perfect.
Yes, as the others said, a dummie can be iced in any medium you want. It's just if you want to strip off that design and redo another one royal and fondant are harder to remove than b'cream. I've used both -- even used (something like) dry wall compound over the years.
