How Do You Keep A Patchwork Fondant Quilt From Drying Out While Working On It?

I've recenlty been asked to make a sewing machine cake with a quilt.  I'm up for the challenge of the machine but my concern is that while I'm making the squares and patching together for the quilt, that the fondant will dry too much to drape  properly on the cake.  Any suggestions on how to prevent this or is that even a concern?

My suggestion is to keep most of the completed parts covered w/plastic wrap.   As for the it even being a concern - a lot will depend on what  your weather is like.  Is it hot & humid?  Dry? HOw large is the quilt?   those would be the biggest concerns as to how fast it will dry.
