I am making my nephews wedding cake. The top tier will be perched on upside down wine glasses filled with roses and the bottom two tiers will be one on top of the other. I have done tiered cakes in the past but my question is... Does anyone have a trick for the icing on the bottom tier not to stick to the one on top?
or sprinkle powdered sugar on it -- or if you're using crusting buttercream -- let it crust -- then stack
The one and only time I used parchment paper the tiers slid apart :( I would never consider doing that. There are many different edible things that can be used: crushed cereal (corn flakes or rice Krispies etc); anything like bread, cake, or graham cracker crumbs.
When I separate my tiered cakes I slide a piece of floss under the top board to separate it from the bottom tier without removing the icing. I was too afraid of my cake shifting during delivery to try the parchment paper. lol
