Hi All

I am a novice baker and am attempting my first lot of roses. After watching a lot of tutorials and giving it a go I am actually pleasantly surprised with what I created. However, my only real problem is that the wire seems a little lose. I made a bud out of the paste, made a small loop on the end of the wire, dipped it in edible glue, put it in and left to dry over night. It had dried and was fine to use but I have noticed the more petles I have added the loser it has become I’m presuming this is due to the weight. Is there any other way to do this? Or something else I can use? Or do I just need to be a little more careful?

I use model magic for the center of the flower paste roses. I love how lightweight it is. I then use hot glue to fix the wire into the flower center. You can make a bunch of the flower centers at one time and store them for whenever you need them. I glue the wire in just before using them because they are easier to store without the wire.

Kjetson74, are you using covered wires?  If you wires are not covered, wrap them in floral tape prior to inserting them into the gum paste cones.  I've never experienced this problem with gum paste cones, however, I usually let mine dry for several days to they are thoroughly dry.

I also like to use styrofoam cones and either use a single wire, which I secure with hot glue or two wires, inserted approximately 1/3 of the way from the bottom of the cone, at right angles to each other, forming a cross inside the cone.  I them fold them down, (four wires now) and twist them together and tape.  Makes for the sturdiest bond ever.

Crayola Crayon Model Magic foam, as WYBee said, is fantastic.  It dried firm, hold the wire very well, & is extremely lightweight.

These are some of the rose cone centers that I made last year.

I agree with Sandra...I think they need to dry.  When we make ours we let them dry for a few days before we ever start petals.  We take strips of styro and line them up standing .
