Hey everyone!

I have a bride asking for a naked cake for her wedding, but would like 3 different flavors for each of the 3 tiers. Chocolate, marble and red velvet.

Have any of you made a naked cake with different flavors? Did it look okay having different colored layers?

If you have pictures that would be great! Thank you!

I have seen cakes like this -- different flavors in a naked cake -- and of course have baked a jillion cakes and know what all the edges look like -- i think this is a terrible idea -- naked cakes can look pretty cool -- most don't to me --  they look like poo -- but i am a huge non-fan of changing the flavors hence the colors of the edges like this --

even if a cake is naked -- it needs some décor like thoughout the edges of the filling or something to make it cohesive -- especially if the colors are gonna be all redbrownyellowblapoo --

just my personal opinion

and i think both of those look great -- the cakes are not chibbled out of the pans -- they have a minimal but lovely decor -- the caramel brings it all together on the dark and light one -- on the other one -- the dominant dark chocolate color is on the bottom -- to me that looks more balanced -- the fruit is just enough to give your eyes some nice color to rest on -- really nice work --

those are both really cool --

(but we've all seen some ringers)

plus on the second one -- you can't discount that white washed cake stand -- it mimics the icing -- it's really beautiful

We have rotates Red Velvet and Chocolate layers (4 layers) and done the top tier champagne.  I think they look better with the darker layers on bottom and thin icing on all layers.  I think it is a preference.

A lot of times I find those whom ask for "naked" cakes are icing haters!  Maybe if you feel it wont look right ask if that is the issue.  If so change the icing to a less sweeter option.  This may not even be the case.  I am just throwing it out there for ya!

I think when the cake layers stick to the pan and you have spots all over is what I was crabbing about earlier blush

K8memphis...your right that is a problem.  That is why I always suggest the thin layer of icing to cover my boo boo's

Personally, I am a huge fan of the near-naked cake, both for the look and for the amount of frosting,  You are right -K8memphis.  For a true naked cake, the sides must be absolute perfect or it looks tacky.  To me, they are not as pretty when they have no icing.
