Hi, can anyone help me, I want to make a cake with a middle tier tilting but with the bottom and top tier straight. I intent to use slanted cake dummies between the bottom and top tiers to sit the middle tilted tier on but not sure how to dowel it? I plan to use a central dowel through everything but do I dowel the dummies as I would dowel a cake or should the whole cake have more dowels all the way through???? Any advice appreciated. Thanks Zoe x

Usually dummies are not doweled except slightly to hold any tiers above in place.  In my experience I've found it  hard to drive a dowel through dummies but it can be done.  I'd probably put the upper tiers in place on the dummy and drive the dowel all the way through before putting all that on the lower tiers - then continue w/the stake into the lower tiers.   Less chance of causing the lower tier any problems :)

I have made a tall cake with dummies involved and my husband drilled a hole through the center of the dummies to accomodate the dowel.
