So I have a customer who has bought a few cakes from me and kind of haggled me down on each one. But I do this from my home as a side gig so it's not a huge deal to me but she has never really paid my full prices. I did a big moana cake for her this past weekend and when she came she immediately noticed her daughter's name plate on the front was cracked down the middle. I hadn't noticed because I was doing 2 huge cakes for her and the name plate is made to look like wood anyway so it kind of blended I guess. I apologized and told her I don's think it's terribly noticeable. It was too late to make another one at this point so there was little I could do. I messaged her later on and apologized again and said I hope the girls have an awesome party and never heard back from her. Should I have done more for her? If it were me I would not have cared at all about a tiny imperfection on an otherwise perfect cake that no one else would even notice. These things always make me question my business and skills and get me so down. Anyone else run into something similar?
Your biggest problem is your thinking :( Why or why are you letting her chop down your pricing?!? You have to grow a backbone. Can you (or her) walk into a resturant and tell them how much you are going to pay for the dinner you order? Of course not! Set your prices and don't back down. From what you say here, it's only been a day or two since she took the cake.....by the way did she pay you anything for it? I would not be concerned any further. No there probably isn't anything more you could have done. She in not the kind of customer you want to keep. Don't worry any further.
