Hello, I normally use wooden dowel for cake stacking. For four tier wedding cake what's the best option to stack cake. I do cake assembly at venue. I live in valley and don't want to take any chances.

Suggestions please,

Thank you in advance,

For years, I have used plastic drink straws - yes even for 4 tiers :)  It depends a bit on the size of the tiers.  Some  people have added wood dowels inside the straw to be extra safe but I have never had any problems using just straws - even when delivering ready stacked ones.  I get thick (around) straws from places like McDonald's (vs places like Taco Bell's which are thinner & not as strong)  and use different # of them depending on the size of the cake being held up.  Like if a 12" is on top of a say 16" I'd use 8 or 9 straws in the 16"er spaced around a 10" circle. DO NOT put any in the middle!)  Hope you can understand the spread I'm trying to relay :)  For a 6" top tier I only use 3 straws spaced in a sort of triangle figure. 6"ers are not heavy - they don't need much support.

I always used wooden dowels until I read the brilliant advise of kakeladi and -K8memphis.  Now I only use large straws and they work wonderfully.  The only difference is that I use a few more of them.  For instance, to support an 8" tier on top of a 10" tier, I use 8 straws.  Next time, I will probably get brave and try using fewer.

I transport my tall cakes in individual tiers, as well, and stack at the venue.  All of the supports are already in place, so all I have to do is stack and add flowers, if any.
