Hey fellow decorators!

A big struggle I have when coloring frosting is getting a True Red color. I know this is a super common problem and I need advice on what you all do to beat this problem.

I myself use gel food coloring as I know it’s easier/stronger than most liquids and it won’t water down or mess with the consistency of my frosting. Do y’all have any other advice to getting a darker red color without adding nearly the whole bottle of dye?

Thanks!

Airbrush it!  Then you won't have to deal with red teeth!

Easiest way for me to get red is to make the buttercream pink a few days ahead of time, let the color develop, and then add red and allow it to develop. I keep adding red and letting it develop  until I reach my desired shade.

For dark ruby red, add a little cocoa powder to your icing along with the red.

Gigglebox is right on :)  Depending on the shade/tone of red you are wanting color you icing pink, orange, yellow or whatever at least 24 hrs ahead of adding the red.  Then allow about the same amount of time for the red to develope fully.
