Was there a picture to show a design? I can't help with pricing as I don't know your location, or your specific costs. I can tell you that when a customer orders a birthday cake, I don't charge for a small 4" smash cake, simply decorated to go with the theme of the larger cake.
it's copyrighted -- so there's that -- you need permission to sell it
29 servings give or take a few (http://capitalconfectioners.com/cakulator/cakulator.html)
after acquiring permission -- i would charge a minimum of $250 for this cake -- i wouldn't go by servings -- i would go by my minimum price -- for example if they wanted a 10x7 that's 58 servings and it's the exact same amount of work -- so the smaller size does not diminish the work involved -- making it bigger doesn't increase the work by much at all --

What K8 said: you cannot leaglly sell that. You could end up with a HUGE lawsuit and fine. It's possible that the request is just a trap to get someone that they can sue! That example cake would take hours unless you are highly skilled....sorry don't know you skill level. I'd say K8 is very close in suggestion such a price.
I have to say that cake is too cute!!! Cool looking cake especially for kids!!! I used to love reading cat in the hat to my son when he was small!!! It is a shame that there is a copyright on it. I see a lot of cakes like this with copyrights but it seems many people still make them anyway.
I think the only way to get around the copyright is to actually buy the figurines which you paid for and just put them on top of the cake. However, those figurines cost plenty of money and would have to be included in the cake costs. I am not really sure if what I am saying is correct about buying the figurines but others here would know. I only do as a hobby.
remnant -- i so agree with you about the copyright lockdown -- so many things should be fair use -- oh well that's where we're at right now huh
