Hi everyone! I’m new to this site and was wondering if I could get some advice on this very specific question.

So I’m making a Minnie Mouse cake for a niece’s birthday party. Her mom wants me to decorate it basically the same way I decorated my daughter’s Minnie cake (see picture) . The only difference is she doesn’t want any more fondant than what’s necessary whereas my daughters cake was covered completely in fondant. I stuck the Minnie ears through with tooth picks then stuck the tooth picks into the fondant and even though they were heavy they stayed upright. I’m worried that without the extra support of the fondant the ears in the butter ream frosting will just tip over. Does anyone have any sort of advice or experience similar to this? I’m thinking that maybe if I use thin long skewers instead of toothpicks they might stand a better chance staying upright because they will be anchored deeper into the cake.

Thanks I’m advance! Will Buttercream Frosting Hold Fondant Minnie Mouse Ears?

Sure if you roll the fondant thin and let it dry say overnight.       B'cream ears will not stand up.  Well...maybe if you thickened the b'cream lots w/more sugar & cornstarch - to pie dough consistency.... but then it won't taste very good :(   Why not try cookie ears??   A thin sugar cookie would work well.  Make them as thin as you dare then ice them w/b'cream.  You can stick sucker sticks or skewers in the cookies - just soak them an  hour in water before baking.
