I made one cake this week for my mom 70th birthday. I very pleased with how it turned out since it was my first attempt at watercolor and also my firsts gumpaste roses! It was a vanilla cake filled with homemade dark sweet cherry jam and white chocolate buttercream. I just came back from the party amd the cake wasva huge hit.
I cant wait to see everybody else beautiful cake.

This was my only cake this week. It was definitely a nontraditional first birthday cake, but the family are animal lovers and actually accepted donations for the local animal shelter instead of gifts, which I thought was so neat! So I did a spin on glitz/girly and paw prints.
It was also my first go with acrylic discs and I must say they were faster, but not as simple as I expected for my first use. I definitely underestimated them. Took a few more steps than I typically use and had me all discombobulated. lol But I am happy with my purchase, and plan to get tons of use out of them!

Laetia, your cake is beautifully done!! Great job done
Gigglebox2014 your cake is so cute!! I love the animal theme too!! Great job done!!\

@Laetia your cake is very pretty and great work on your first gumpaste roses!
@GIGGLEBOX2014 your cake is adorable :-)
@louglou what a cute cake!
Last week was crazy busy for me and is why I am so late posting. I had a last minute request from a friend to make cupcakes for her husband's birthday. She asked for something either guitar themed, kayak themed or camping. I found a very simplistic idea online for cupcakes that resemble a campfire and she loved them. I guess it goes to show that we need not go over the top all the time.
Next up was a cake that really tugged at my heart strings. Just recently I learned that a previous student of mine has terminal bone cancer. The university held a special graduation ceremony for him as he will not be able to complete the school year. A few of his close friends contacted me & asked if I could make him a cake and of course I could not say "no". They requested his favorite flavor, carrot cake, and for it to say "Love you, Jerm" on it.
Another last minute request was for a red hat society themed gluten free cake. I was able to make it happen in a short time frame because as luck would have it I had some purple gumpaste roses on hand. I made a few small white flowers to accompany the roses and it all came together nicely.
Two of my friends in pottery class have birthdays this month so on Saturday I surprised them with a birthday cake. It was a double barrel 5" chocolate cake with a Bailey's cheesecake center and chocolate ganache. The design was inspired by a cake that I saw online, simplistic yet classy I thought. The flowers were my first wafer paper ranunculus and I was quite pleased with how they turned out. I added a bit of silver leaf for a little something extra.
Last on the list was a cake to celebrate the 100th year of our community center building. It started out as a general store in 1917 and in 1992 the (then vacant) building was donated to the community to become the community center. My initial idea was to make the cake look like a photo album with pictures of the building through the years but nobody came forward with photos to use to what you see is plan B.

Oh my gosh, how much fun to come in this morning, the first free time I've had in days, and see all of these wonderful creations!
Laetia The drip on that cake is just perfect! Such an elegant cake.
GIGGLEBOX2014 So would you recommend the discs? I have been tempted to get them.
louglou Love the Star Wars cake! We are huge fans and that turned out wonderfully!
kstevens Kelly, full week as always but it's the tiny cupcakes that make me smile this week! How simply wonderful!
I hope everyone has a very happy Thanksgiving, those who live in the States, and am curious about cakes for this week? Anyone doing any T'giving themed ones? I'll be deep in pies myself. For those who are not in the States, are you gearing up for Christmas already?
Have a great week!

I've been trying to write my post yesterday bit lost everythig 3 times before I gave up. I first want to say a huge thanks for all the great comments you've said to me. It realy means a lot.
@Gigglebox2014 I love how you played around the girly/chic/dog theme. Well done, it's a beautiful cake.
@louglou I love all your little stars. What an inspireing galaxy...
@kstevens wow a busy week you've had! Did you have any time to sleep at all? All your creations are beautiful, but my heart goes to your chocolate cheese double barel cake. It is so clean and elegant with the silver leaf and the flowers. I'm also sory to ear that your student is so sick. Cancer is such a cruel disease. It is probably the main reason I do my day job. Trying to fight that b**ch and help all those people to live cancer free (or at least, trying to minimise their pain if it is terminal...). It makes me feel a little more usefull in life

@catlharper I paid $47 on Amazon with Prime including free 2 Day Shipping. I got the 6, 8, and 10 inch set (total of 6 discs) in the .25 inch diameter. Which is what I used on this Paw Print cake. I do not use fondant, so I felt it was a little on the thin side. So I will be getting the .50 inch ones to replace these since my cakes are solely buttercream. If I would have read the entire description it states if you cover with fondant the .25 inch are recommended, and the .50 inch is recommended for cakes covered in only buttercream or ganache. I will say it made smoothing extremely quick, as I am so bad for trying to get "perfect" sides and will continue around and around til I mess something up. lol. It will just be a learning curve as it is still pretty new to me. So I am a supporter so far!!!

@kstevens I love the little campfire cupcakes, what a great way of doing them! And love love love your choc double barrel. So gorgeous!
Love Star Wars, pawprints, choc drip.... all look delish!
I've been gearing up for a wedding expo this coming Sunday so only took on one wedding cake this week... a nice easy semi-naked with fresh flowers :)

What beautiful cakes! I think, tall barrel with the two flowers is my favorite...
I am working on 2 cakes for Sunday, but unsure if I will be able to snap a good photo. Have not stacked those yet, and also can't add final toppers/etc until on location. My husband is beginning to wonder how the fridge will look. once I take all the boxes out. It isn't the biggest - one round of about 8X6 + 13X9X4.5 and an 9X5, but all the protective boxes took up a lot of space. I "outsource" Thanksgiving (and Christmas) meal to my mother-in-law, so that is fortunate in event of cakes needing fridge space )))
It is for a double birthday, a One year old and a 40 Year old daughter and dad. Their mom have never ordered a custom cake before, and it was quite a thing at first. She kept forgetting important information, like that the bigger (40yo) cake is to be a surprise, or that they are vegetarians, and so on. Budget, too, and simple not knowing what goes into making the designs she wants. She's a nice lady, and we reached agreement, but I had to gently calm her down and tell her it will be ok :-) Anyway, a funny story there, but long, of how it is to work with a new customer.
Don't remember if I posted these, but these were "free quickies" - a donation to school, and a family birthday, mid-last-week.

So the people I delivered the cake to, sent me a final photo, and the globe and the suitcase photos are ones I took myself.

I had an expo at the weekend. We've got a great giveaway happening in Perth at the moment called the Perth Ultimate Wedding Giveaway where couples can win up to $10k off their wedding. Had a fantastic day with loads of interest :)
This is my little stall set-up.... I have made a lovely florist friend who did all the fresh flowers (backdrop and cake collars) in exchange for cupcakes! So lucky!!

Hi everyone,
Life has been...well, pretty sucky at work lately. It's been taking everything out of me and I don't really have the emotional strength to hang out right now...that's why I've been MIA. But what a TREAT to come here tonight and see such awesome cakes!
I'm working on a small kids birthday cake this week...not due till Saturday so I'm working on it slowly over the next several days...just baking now. Balancing that with Christmas and work as well as other family obligations has just kicked my butt. I'll share a photo of it when I'm done.
