If I take a standard vanilla buttercream recipe with butter and powdered sugar and add 4 oz cream cheese to cut the sweetness would the cake/cupcakes have to be refrigerated then?

1 cup butter, softened
3 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt

+ 4oz cream cheese

TIA

yes keep it cold

you can substitute white balsamic vinegar for the cream cheese to cut the sweetness -- here's a recipe:
