Hello everybody! I have been hearing these two names for people like us who like to decorate cakes and cupcakes: "Cake decorator and Cake artist". It may be just a matter of words; however, I wonder if there is a real difference between these two? is it the same being a cake decorator as being a cake artist? opinions are all welcome! thank you

I do not think of myself as a 'cake artist'.  I don't have much artistic ability.  I copy...not exactly, but have to see something to come up w/a design so think of myself as a 'cake decorator'.  I get a lot of inspiration from such different books and magazines - like woodworking; scuplty; balloons; and many other sources.    To me an artist can think up their design out of their head.......w/o seeing any picture etc.  They usually just start working -  with whatever medium they work in......say putty or paint or whatever and WAHLA something great results.
