I'm just wondering how I would make this cute cake topper. How should I attach the fishes to the string? And how should I make "the big one" sign? Thank you in advance!
The long rods used to hold the line of fish are dowels. To attach the fish to the line you can use fondant or gp. JUst a small blob :) The big sign could be fondant or gp or if you don't need/want it edible use a heavt weight (card stock) piece of 'paper'.
I did something similar to the fishes on the string, but it was stars instead. I used two long wooden skewers (what you'd use for kebabs). I had stars that I had cut out of cardstock. To attach them to the string, I used two cut-outs per star, glued them to each other with the string in the middle (kinda like a star-string-star sandwich).

If I was to use a heavy weight card stock for the sign, I could just glue the paper to the card stock and stick it into the cake? @kakelad
Did you use just regular elmers glue? @nmbakes
Thanks for the info! I'll have to check it out! @alohilani
@dream_cakes15 I just realized I misspoke when I said glued them. I
didn't use glue, I used scrapbook adhesives (they're double-sided) to
stick them together. The card stock had a metallic shine to it and
figured adhesive that's meant for scrapbooking was probably safer to use
(plus, liquid glue kinda warps the paper). Below is what I used, I love
those!

Also, another idea would be punch tiny wholes on the fishes (two per fish) and then thread the string through the holes.
