Can I Combine Wafer Paper Flowers With Gumpaste Ones?
Decorating By kstevens Updated 21 Jun 2017 , 12:28pm by kstevens
I have an upcoming cake for my mother in laws 70th birthday. I've not made them before but I want to try wafer paper flowers for on it. Most of the tutorials I've seen have been for larger flowers. My guess is that the filler flowers would be easiest to make using a flower punch? If that is the case, I don't have one. Can I just make them in gumpaste or is it "wrong" to combine the two mediums in one arrangement?
Any guidance/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
@kakeladi took the words right out of my mouth! Of course! I have made few wafer paper flowers, but I made their foliage out of gum paste and it worked just fine.
@MBalaska you are too kind! Thank you :-)
@kakeladi and @SandraSmiley thank you or your input. I don't do a lot of floral cakes so I don't know all the "rules". I know the odd number rule but that's about the extent of my knowledge. Of course I realize that it's my cake and I can do what I want but I also like to try and stay true if that makes any sense at all. I was thinking it may not work esthetically to have the two mediums mixed but that's probably just me over thinking it. We'll see what I come up with....
The flowers are wafer paper and the foliage is gum paste.
Thank you, @MBalaska . These are my one and only attempt at wafer paper flowers. I need to try more.
@SandraSmiley thanks for sharing the photo. They are very pretty!
Thanks @kstevens ! Can't wait to see what you do!
@Rachel19 thank you for your input. Your flowers are very pretty!
I have most of my filler flowers made and they are gumpaste. I made a quick fantasy flower I guess we'll call it last night from wafer paper and it looks like a flower. Lol. Hopefully going to try more tonight but I also have two other b-day cakes to decorate, cookies to bake, lemon curd to make....not enough hours in my days!
