Friday Night Cake Club For 6/09/17Hi everyone,

We had a work event last night and then my hubby and I rushed out to date night and so I totally forgot about here! Whoops! Busy summertime. I DO have a cake to share. It was a friend of our daughters, and a friend of ours, 25th birthday so we celebrated with a family dinner and a surprise birthday cake. She is a major Thor fan (enough to know that this is called a Mjolnir, pronounced something like Mill deer). She was thrilled. Mexican Hot Chocolate cake, vanilla MMF.

@catlharper ‍ sounds yummy.

Guess everyone is busy. I am thinking about making a cake and cupcakes for work later today. I will post pictures if I do.

Have a great week.

Cool cake, @catlharper ‍!

Here's a cake I made today for Mike (husband) and me.  It is an almond flavored cake with coconut buttercream and shaved coconut fulling, covered in white chocolate-coconut ganache and coconut buttercream and shaved coconut.

Cool cakes!

I like to mix coconut flavors/shavings with pineapple flavors/fillings. The combo makes me thing of pina-colada. :-)

I did some European teams soccer cookies for my son's team. Not too great to my eye, but they were flying off the plate, and kids were super-happy. My son's favorite team isn't depicted, but he asked for a separate tray full of just that sometime later, next season )))

@SandraSmiley ‍ that is SO elegant! Anniversary cake? Just beautiful!

@LelekBolek ‍ I always envy people who can do cookies and make them look great! I've tried and I just suck! LOL!

Have a great week! I have cupcakes for my grandson and a farewell cake for a coworker this week so I'll have lots to share on Friday!

@LelekBolek ‍, your cookies look great and a lot of work!  "Not great" would be my cookies, haha!  I like pineapple with coconut, too, but I had lemon curd to go with this one so I held the pineapple.

Thank you, sweet @catlharper ‍!  Not our anniversary, we just like to eat cake :o)  Here is our anniversary cake from a couple of years ago.  It is hard to see, but written in the left hand corner of the first tier is "Unchained Melody" (the name of the cake, by the way), which was our wedding song.Friday Night Cake Club For 6/09/17

My apologies for being absent on FNCC the last couple of weeks but I have been stupid busy and now here I am late this week.....

@catlharper ‍Thor's hammer turned out great!

@SandraSmiley ‍ those hydrangeas are gorgeous as is your anniversary cake.

@LelekBolek ‍ nothing wrong with how your cookies look.  Great job!

@Marian64 ‍ your cake and cupcakes are very pretty :-)

I will back track a bit to share what I have been up to over me last couple of weeks. Hope nobody minds.  May 25th I did a cake for the organic intersession class on their last day before their exam.  It was a Breaking Bad/organic chemistry themed cake.  The "meth" is homemade rock candy and all the other decorations are fondant and gumpaste.  The top of the cake features one of the reactions they study in the class. Lots of molecules and bits of molecules to represent the model kits they use.  I did a second cake that week but I can't share it yet as it is for a collaboration.

May 31 I did a civil engineering graduation cake. The side of the cake features the university's engineering logo and then I added blueprints (which I painstakingly drew with edible marker), a gumpaste protractor, diploma and a chocolate hard hat with the grad's name on it.  That evening I received what had to be the most appreciative phone call ever from the mom who ordered it.  Such a nice feeling.

June 1 I did a retirement cake for a teacher at the community college.  She taught business math and stats.  The request was to include "Salty Rose" cottage where she frequents as well as math. My brain wave was to do a stack of math books with the "Retirement for Dummies" on top.  The learn to do items on the retirement book are tailored to the retiree.  The little cottage is made from gumpaste and replaces the photo that is normally in the book cover.

June 4 I did a Tabor the tiger beanie boo cake for Jenna.  This was my third year doing her cake and it's always fun to do.  I wasn't sure how to achieve the look of the short fur the toys have so I opted just to do it smooth. If anyone has ideas on how to achieve the short fur look I am interested.  I do have a short fur mat but it's not the right look.

This past weekend was my boyfriend's birthday and I made him a Harley Quinn cake.  The cake itself is a modified version of Yolanda Gampp's chocolate peanut butter mega cake.  I drew Harley with edible marker and then used gel colors and vodka for the watercolor effect. Her image is based off a piece of artwork I found online.  The bubblegum bubble is made from gelatin, my first time trying it.  I chose to only covered the front of the cake with fondant as we prefer not to eat it so no sense wasting it.

Pictures to follow.

@LelekBolek ‍ I love your cupcakes and don't be silly, you have plenty of skill!

Thank you @catlharper ‍ , @LelekBolek ‍ and @SandraSmiley ‍  for the kind words on my creations.  I wasn't sure how they would all turn out having taken on so much in a couple weeks but I was happy with every one of them. Making a cake for my boyfriend is always stressful cause he sees everything else I do and I don't want him to ever feel short changed.  I think Harley is one of my favorites and I have saved her for the time being. lol

I'm looking forward to July when I think my slate is clean.

@kstevens ‍ thank for the compliment. I am so in awe of your cakes. I thought you may have been taking a break, but see you have been busy. I had to go back and read where you painstakingly drew the blueprints, because they look perfect.

@LelekBolek ‍ your cupcakes look great I was wondering if you had made those berries.

@SandraSmiley ‍ thanks for the sweet words.
