Valentine's Cake.... Need Help!!! Please! :)

Ok my god daughter has asked me to make her a pound cake for her boyfriend for Valentine's day. She'd like it in a heart shape, I have the Heart pan SET in 6" 10" 12" and I believe 16" or maybe 14" not sure but it's the 4 piece set.... I was thinking of doing a 10" for them and was thinking of using the "Best ever pound cake" recipe from here with the vanilla glaze recipe found on another recipe here....
Has anyone here made pound cakes in regular pans? and will it work? Has anyone tried making the ones they sell in the grocery store pre-made out on the floor on tables, labeled at like $5.~ per cake or something... the boyfriend just keeps telling her it's a vanilla pound cake with a vanilla glaze on it... I've never done a pound cake in a tradional pan or any pan for that matter. I've never made a glaze or used a glaze either so.....
Any help or advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Also..... this will be my first from scratch cake.... how much would you charge for it? If it's dueable in a 10" heart pan it will be a 10" Heart shaped pound cake with vanilla glaze. Simple and basic.
Thanks in advance!
Becky
Good post!!! I was thinking about doing the same thing today but wondered if it would work.
My favorite pound cake recipe is Southern Living's Cream Cheese Pound Cake. If your unable to find it, let me know and I'll post it. I've only ever done it in a 10" tube pan. Hope someone else has tried a pound cake in a "regular" pan. ![]()
The glaze is probably just a thick combination of milk, sugar and vanilla. As far as the pound cake, never had success so can't give too much advice...but I would definitely suggest using a heating core or flower nails in the larger one. My SIL made a pound cake in a round 10" I believe - 3" pan and it took so long to cook it was overdone.
Yes you can bake pound cake in a regular pan, and a heart shaped pan. I would use 3 flower nails in a 10" to be sure it bakes evenly.
Vanilla glaze is basically powdered sugar, liquid and vanilla. You can use water, milk.
As for charging, by the serving is usually the easiest, at least $1 per
I have never used the recipe on this site for the best poundcake because I grew up with the best poundcake maker in my family and upon her death, I was given the goods
But I have read many people say it is good.. to answer your other questions.. I have made my poundcake in other pans, in fact my grandmother would use her extra batter in coffee or soup cans and bake them smaller for her family and not the ones she sold... I know it works and can be done.. just have to watch it.. You know they cook at lower temps for longer too. I have recently added Poundcake glaze to my cakes when asked for.. the recipe I use is powdered sugar and milk with a little flavoring.. some people like lemon, I usually use vanilla, almond, or creame bouquet. I eye my ingredients on it depending on the size of my cake... my usual customer cake is in the long tube pan... so it is a large cake.. I poke holes in the top of it after it has baked and pour the liquid glaze into them and over the top of it and just let it run down... you could even put a little pink or red in the glaze for the V-day look....
for price, I know for the tube pans here in AL.. and only because scratch pounders are expensive at that size, the locals charge $25 with glaze because it is considered a specialty cake.... yours would be smaller, but don't cut yourself either.. it all depends on your area. Trust me, those little 8.99 cakes in the grocery store aren't great, so you must charge twice those
since yours is going to be twice as good at least.....
good luck
Thanks everyone so very much!!!!!!!!!
I really wanna make this work and yes the little ones in the store is what he likes so much lmao and they are about 10 bucks for a fair sized one so... I was thinking maybe $15.~ or $20.~
I wanna thank you all so much for your help and suggestions. ![]()
