I'm planning a secret agent/spy party for my son and want to do a theme cake. I pretty much do two cakes a year, one for each kid.  I was thinking  a giant briefcase with accessories but  I hate rolling out huge sheets of fondant.  I could give it a shot.  Any suggestions on how people got the 'ridges' in the briefcase.  I sent a few messages to people but haven't heard back.  OR any other ideas that would be cool?

Also, I want to make a magnifying glass.  I ordered isomalt, which is a new thing to me.   Can I melt it inside a round cookie cutter and then remove and wrap the gumpaste or modeling chocolate around that?  Or would you do the frame first and pour into that?

Thanks!

.......... suggestions on how people got the 'ridges' in the briefcase.........

Use rolls of fondant or rice treats.   Sorry, never used isomalt.   I have heard on those cake shows on t.v. that isomalt is not edible.

Thanks. Rolled fondant makes sense. I thought RKT, but it seems like it wouldn't be as precise. Isomalt is a sugar and is edible. I researched. I don't know that anyone would eat it anyway off the cake, but it's fine if they do.

Any other ideas?  I'm kind of thinking of making a smaller briefcase and not making the whole cake one, since that would be a hell of a huge piece of fondant.

Well...you could make a black pair of sunglasses, severel "fake ID cards" a pass port, a pair of handcuffs, a hat, make a piece of a "leather coat" out of fondant and have it hanging over the edge of the brief case as part of his "under cover" clothes. If the cake board is big enough you can make some black footprints and put those around the edges of the cake board just like in the old etective movies. Make a little "ray gun" out of fondant that the detective would carry to take in the bad guy when he captured him. Hope this helps!
