The unicorn seems very popular right now.. does anyone know how to get or work with white cotton candy? I believe it would not stay stable for long on a cake. The picture is not mine.. just an example. Thank you

Very cute cake. You'd need a cotton candy machine as you need centrifugal force and some heat. Spun sugar is easier to make, but very messy and wilts with humidity. There are inexpensive, "toy" cotton candy machines available that would work for small quantities.
Thanks. I have looked around and you can't seem to buy it white. Only colored. I am biting the bullet and buy a kiddie cotton candy machine and see how it goes
I might place a thin piece of fondant under the "hair" so it doesn't dissolve into the buttercream. It actually goes all down the back of the cake too. Eek.
I have used a toy cotton candy maker for white cotton candy. Even over fondant in my dry climate, it 'melted' in a very short time. I would recommend putting the cotton candy on the cake at the venue. Mine melted in just the drive to the venue. Thankfully the cake was for my daughter. I used it for 'snow'.

I was was lucky enough to track down the maker of that beautiful cake and WYbee is absolutely right. It will melt in minutes. I included her Facebook link because I was so impressed with her and her cakes. I will also post her response.. for anyone else wanting to try cotton candy. I am going to do buttercream roses, the party will be to crazy with little girls to replenish the cotton candy. Thanks to everyone for your help.
her response..
Aww thank you so much for your lovely email
Aww thank you so much for your lovely email I've had a lot of people ask about the unicorn cake
It actually just melts within minutes so I had to top up the cake with new fairy floss every now and then. Thank goodness it was something I just tried out for my little niece's birthday cake.
I do wish that it stayed fluffy though! That would have been awesome
Hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend!
Warm regards,
Loan
