I need to make a cake for a team party and I would like to make a six layer 9" round cake. However, I need to serve eight kids and their families, so a regular one tier 9" cake won't work. I was thinking that I would put some cardboard cake rounds in between every two layers so I can cut the cake in three separate parts without making a tiered cake. Would that work? Also, I don't have time to go buy cake rounds, so is there a way I can make food safe cake rounds (I don't want to just put plain cardboard in it because I don't know where it's been).

Thanks,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Emily

You are going to stack the six layers with a cake round between every two layers. Right?

So, you are going to cut the top two layers...when it is gone, remove the cake board and cut the next two layers. etc. Right?

Just trying to understand what you are wanting to do.

That's correct.

The only thing I can think of using for the cake rounds is cardboard. Preferably cut from a box that never been used.

If you do not want the cardboard touching the cakes, put a piece of parchment/wax paper cut to fit the rounds on the top and bottom of each one.

Hope this info isn't too late.   To make cardboard more food safe, cover it with plastic wrap (that newer wrap that clings to itself) or cover w/freezer wrap (yrs ago called butcher paper) - it's heavy white paper coated w/wax on one side.

Another idea I have for you is to put two layers of cake rounds side by side, then put the other layers on top of that centered.  Like this:  Haystacks on Cake CentralMakes serving a bit easier :)
