Any brilliant ideas on the type of theme I could use for a friend who has renovated her entire house? She is having an open house, and I want to showcase my talents to her friends.

Oh my......that's a tall order:)
Let's see.......depends on how big you want this cake.....how many tiers? If just one round or sq say about 10 or 12" I suggest dividing it roughly in 1/2 w/one side sort of a 'before' style and the other 'after'. If a tiered cake then bottom cake before and other tiers after - maybe w/a 'along the way' tier between.
To me 'renovate' means completely remake - not just re decorate.
