I am sure I probably got this from one of you expert CC's, but don't remember whom, and it really is making the rose construction go more easily/quickly.
I cleaned out (REALLY WELL!!!)a nail polish bottle and filled it with gumpaste glue-a little bit of gumpaste disolved in water-; this is so much easier than balancing my paint brush on the side of a small bowl, plus the glue doesn't get all sticky. I feel almost like I really AM getting the hang of this whole cake decorating thing ![]()
I am sooo happy that I have a tip this time instead of a question! ![]()
Hope this is helpful...
Kathy
Awesome tip- thanks for sharing! How did you clean out your bottle?
Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is great tip, I always finish my cakes last minute and attach fondant details with water, cos there is no time for something better. As soon as I finish posting this reply I'll go to find a nail polish that I don't use.
That is an awesome idea. SO handy to use and keep a free hand at the same time. Thanks for sharing!!!!!!!!! ![]()
Awesome tip- thanks for sharing! How did you clean out your bottle?
I poured out as much polish as I could and then poured acetone (thru a small funnel) into the polish bottle-shook it like crazy, poured out the thinned polish, repeated til the bottle was clean and then washed several times in hot soapy water.
Be advised-acetone is very flammable-read the caution panel on the can!
Glad the tip is useful...

I do believe that was a tip from me. I don't clean out used nail polish bottles though. You can buy new, unused empty bottles with the brush cap top from the beauty supply. My daughter got a full case for me at her cost, about 80 cents per bottle.
And here is the recipe for Tylose gum glue.
1 cup boiling water
1/2 heaping teaspoon Tylose powder
Sprinkle the Tylose powder over the boiling water, stir once to break up lumps, and using a small funnel pour into empty new nail polish bottles.
Let set overnight at room temperature. The next day the glue will be clear and free of lumps. Store in the refrigerator. Keeps 6 months or longer. It will turn yellow and begin to mold when it is beyond it's shelf life.
And look what I just found on good old eBAY!

Shirley, do you think this would work with thinned out gel colors too? I was just thinking, I often make more than I end up using, but the alcohol evaporates and you can't really use it , so I end up just tossing it. What do you think?
