Just curious....

What trends/styles are popular where you live?  Are you baking more traditional buttercream decorated/piped flowers and designs cakes or more modern fondant/gum paste/lace/etc. decorated cakes?

Comment what area of the world you live in if you'd like (urban or rural too) and what your're baking mostly these days.....

Ooh, what an interesting question! Can't wait to see what everyone says!

There aren't many custom bakeries in my area, but the trends are definitely more modern. Drip cakes, watercolor tiers, unicorn and geode cakes, etc. The more tradition-style cakes are extremely rare.

I'm located outside of what's considered to be a "large city," but given that I'm in the Midwest, "large" means about 100,000 people. So I'm probably rural by many people's standards, haha!

I live in Jamestown Tn. We are a very small town. We only have about 2,000 people who live in town. I live 5 minutes outside town overlooking a cliff with mountain views. Since moving here 9 months ago I only make a few cakes for friends. I maybe make 10 cakes per year. Just enough to keep me busy a little. I also make cakes for my neighbors when I decide to make them a cake for thanksgiving or xmas. They have a big smile when I bring them cakes. I do it just to keep busy and so I can keep the decorating so I don't get away from it entirely.

I just like to have fun making the cakes. If I had to do it for a living I would probably not have as much fun!!!
