So, I decided to do a test run and see how many customers I could drum up doing cakes at home. To my surprise it was quite a bit. Also to my surprise I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. However, I am now getting the itch again because I feel my youngest daughter would cooperate a little more now. Plus, I have a lot more space in a new home with larger kitchen. It became a lot of work last time but I think I learned some valuable lessons. Any advice?

When one finds they don't enjoy decorating it becomes a real chore :(  Maybe limit how many &/or what type of  orders you can handle in order to enjoy what you are doing.   There is no shame in saying "Sorry, I'm already booked for that date."  in order to keep things under control.  Another way to limit how many  requests for order you are getting is to up your price.  Take a good look at what it *REALLY* is costing you to make that cake and be sure you are getting paid enough to take time away from your family for it.  Don't give your talent away!  By raising yur prices you will no longer be "The cheap cake lady.  It definately will weed out those who are just using you.

Your work looks neat and clean so you deserve good pricing.  Please don't get me wrong - I have no idea what you are charging - maybe you are already up there where your talent is getting what it should - but in case you are not rethink it :)

If you get many orders and don't enjoy so much, maybe look at your pricing, maybe you don't make enough money from all that decorating.

If your prices are where  they should be and you still get a lot of orders, then you are lucky. Maybe limit number of orders per week, especially if you have children.

Your cakes are neat.

My friends always order cakes from another lady. She charges half of what I would charge. They always tell me how her fridge is full with cakes ready for customers to pick up. I , on the opposite,  get a lot of inquiries but little orders, which is totally ok with me.
