Hi,

someone asked me to make them a cake, it is SO last minute and I'm doing them a favor.  The cake is to look like candles melting. Her them is red, yellow and orange-think fire.

So basically I was going to make a drip cake and alternate her theme colors dripping down the sides of the cake.

My question is, can I use canNed frosting melted in microwave, colored and drip over edge of cake? Have you ever tried this, does it set? Do you have another foolproof, easy and fast drip recipe? Ahough I really would rather used the canned if it works :)

Also if you have any ideas of what to put on top of the cake, I'm going to do the colored drip, and put that same color candle on the corresponding drip color but I feel like it'll need more, it might look boring....it's for a 12 year old.

thanks and sorry for making it so long!!! Please share your experience.

Hope this reply isn' too late as you say it's a very last minute order.   Yes, there is no problem with doing what you prepose.

I would color the icing *before* melting it.  And don't get the icing HOT....watch carefully  and take it out as soon as about 50-75% of it is melted and stir it the rest of the way.  If it gets really hot it seperated and dries weird.   Being as it's so close to Christmas maybe add some small piped snowflakes?  They are really easy to make just pipe an X, then add lines between each of the exsisting ones.  Remember, these are small.....probably no bigger than a nickle.

Just remember canned frosting does not taste the same as homemade!!!
