I feel really bad I just got text from my customer that she is not happy with the cake. When she picked it she said it's nice I like it but the colours different of what she wants. She asked if she can pay 60$ instead of 70$ ( not bcz of the colours bcz she had the $60 already in her hand which means that was her intention before even seeing the cake). I apologized and said sorry but it really took a lot of my time so she got $20 from her pocket and I have her the change.

after she went I sent her msg saying along with collage pic of my cake and the pic she sent:

(I'm sorry if you feel disappointed about the colours. I tried my best. Here the colours of the two cakes together. Not 100% but very close.

Hope the taste of the cake will make it up for you

She texted me back after 20 min saying:

(More than the colour I am disappointed in the smoothness of the cake. You made such a pretty cake for my sister and that's why I asked for this one as well. I feel I paid more that I should have.  I am sorry but this was not you best work )

that ruined my day. What I should do?

Not sure which one is your cake but I don't see anything wrong with either one.  It is almost impossible make an exact copy of someone else's cake.  I don't think I could copy my own exactly since I can never remember what colors I mixed. I just think she is looking to get a discount especially since she already tried to pay less than the agreed price.

Sometimes customers can be hard to work with, but in the end your cake looks amazing! $60 for a two tier cake is very low considering the time that most likely went into making it. If I were you I would remain professional and calm and just be honest with her. Let her know how much time went into it and that you obviously couldn't get a perfect color match, but it was pretty close. You could even give her a small discount from any other orders she places with you in the future, but overall it almost sounds like she's just trying to get a low price?

Your cake is the 2 tier?!?  For $70?   I'm not sure where you are located but she got a bargain.  Your cake is adorable.  I would not offer her any type of refund on it.  At most a small discount in her next order and I would check on the prices in your area.  You may be charging too little

I completely agree. Cakes are expensive to make, and with your time added on to the cost by charging $70 you are most likely barely making a profit!

Thanks ladies. Mine the 2 tiers one. The bottom however is dummy cake but still took time for decorating as real cake! I'm tired and down bcz her feedback and bcz I slept 2:30am working not and wake up early for my work and still didn't sleep yet. I'll wait till I sleep and get calm before replying to her. Thanks for your encouragement.

Definitely wait until you have some sleep.  You are so right about the dummy cake.  Perhaps it's my inexperience but I find it harder to cover in fondant than a real cake.

Some quick thoughts, not being critical:

1) Your pricing is way off. It's a disservice to you , your time is worth more than that

2) You need to improve a bit: the hat , some of the lines, the letters are a bit off, It doesn't take much to throw off the whole look of the cake if a few key areas look sloppy.

3) Those colors are hard to work with - you need to make recommendations so that you can avoid situations where major colors clash with each other. It's not always possible but try to influence a bit if you can .  I hate blue and grey myself.

That being said, your fondant base looks good on both cakes, just the decorations could have used a little more attention to detail.

I don't think she will get another two tier cake from anyone else for 70 dollars!! Your prices are too low!! I am a hobby baker and I don't think you made any profit on that cake. I think the cake looked great. She definitely got herself a bargain!!!! Sounds like she was just low balling you trying to get it cheaper!!!  Hang in there and keep the faith!!!

Tell her I will be more than happy to bake that cake for her next time...but be prepared to pay at least $150-175 for it.

If I were you, I'd shrug it off, move on, and if she ever contacts you again, politely decline, saying you do not feel you can please her.
