Hi all!

I'm making a Rocky Horror cake for Halloween, and was hoping some folks might have some advice.

I can't figure out how to get the fishnet effect, or the metallic grommets (perhaps I could cut out a small circle and use luster dust).  Also, some people recommend using 8" circles for the top and bottom and 6" in the middle to help with the classic hourglass shape - any thoughts?

Thanks!

Katy

Howdy - have you got a pic of what you're trying to create?  At a guess I'm thinking black RI piped for the fishnet effect and either luster dust or perhaps edible metallic paints for the grommets?

Claire Bowman has a fishnet mold (might be others?), if you'd like to go that route.  You could also sanitize some kind of mesh packaging (like what oranges or lemons come in, for example), pin it to the side of your cake (like you would a stencil) and airbrush (or hand paint) over that onto your cake.

That would work for the hourglass shape - two 8's and a 6.  You'll just trim (just) a bit more off.  I do a 8, 7, 6 and them trim from the 6" board to the 8" board.  I don't think the 7" pan is one most people have, so two 8's and a 6 work over buying a new pan :)

Hello!

Thanks for the replies!  Yes, a picture WOULD be helpful, I suppose!  [postimage id="5322" thumb="900"]

Also - I've never been good with fondant.  Which is why I'm working with it more.  Never had good instruction.  Any tips?  For a black corset, I was thinking of making a chocolate fondant with cocoa powder to help jump start the deep color I need.

And - of course - I'm making a set of red lips for the top!!

Thanks!! :)

Has anyone tried the powdered icing colors?

I've used powdered colors.  Are you wanting to dust something with them straight out of the bottle?  Or add them to icing?
