Hello everyone. I'm in a bit of a pickle here. OK, so I make cake and cupcakes from my home for people in my community. I buy the Sams Club Frosting in bulk because its cheaper. And it lasts a long time. Everyone loves it. But I'm unsure if I should be making homemade buttercream, if I'm going to make this into a little business. I only buy it because where I live butter gets pretty expensive, and i cant keep a consistent price on the buttercream if the $ keeps changing. And I get 30Lbs. for $37.

And advise would help.

If it isn't broken, don't fix it.   If it were me and I was making a profit using purchased frosting, I'd keep using it.  I strongly suggest you experiment NOW (BEFORE you need to) and practice making different homemade buttercreams and get feedback.  There's no guarantee  that the Sam's Club frosting won't change in price and you must have a Plan B.

If people like the frosting from Sam's then you should continue to buy it. I had a cake one time at a party that had Sam's icing and I remember it being pretty good. I am sure it helps that you don't have to make icing. One less step when making cakes helps!!
