Hi all!

I was just curious if anyone has any experience with re-enforcing really delicate fondant pieces.

I have these really intricate letters that I have cut out of gumpaste, and have attached a wire to the bottom so that they can be a nice monogram topper to this wedding cake I am making.

I am starting to have concerns that they may break before the event, and I have started brainstorming ways to avoid that.

My only idea is to use a thin consistency royal icing and pour it over the letters (over a drying rack) basically like a glaze and let that dry.   Has anyone ever tried this, or has another way to strengthen delicate pieces?

Have you considered cutting out more letters and gluing them to the backs?  But I also like your idea.  No idea is best :(

this is one reason I start with fondant for things like this -- it can get super strong with tylose and cornstarch and it seems to have a little more forgiveness than just gum paste -- I have to really beat it up to get it to crack -- even after dropping it on the floor -- even flower petals last better -- so there's that -- it's more shatter resistant for me --

then as far as reinforcing it -- I think I would maybe choose chocolate over royal for the pouring it over the back -- but if I did use royal I would pipe it on the back --

but I would not pour anything because I know that I would lose the definition of the cut out -- I'm just not that good pouring glazes & things --

i like the idea of cutting out a bit smaller version and gluing it on fresh with piping gel then leave it to set up

@TheNerdyBaker ‍ Nicholas Lodge thins down his fondant with a bit of water and pipes it. You could do this same thing with your fondant & a parchment cone. Pipe it on the back to reinforce it.
