We have a wedding cake coming up soon. White with black lace work on it.

Our concern with using black imbc on white imbc is bleeding. It isnt a fondant covered cake.

Would it be ok to use black cake lace on imbc? It does need to be refrigerator, obviously.

If not, any thoughts?

best answer is test it -- i haven't done that exact combo

but y'know what -- i think i might want to do that last minute though -- because the lace can be so manageable now too --

i would love to see pictures of your trials if you do any and what you learn --

and of your finished work -- best to you

Thanks. Only reason i asked is because we dont have any yet lol. Boss needs to get some. She was gonna get sugar veil but i told her today sugar lace or sugar dress would probably work better.

Im hoping it will work out ok and will report back. :)

are you in the states -- do you have a hobby lobby -- you can get some there it's called sunny side up bakery easy to use cake lace mix $14,99 --

i haven't tried to color it -- i've heard it's tricky to color it -- i would add the color when i mixed it and i think i would use powdered color -- if it wasn't dark enough i'd have to brush on some more after it sets up --

so there's that

@Jeff_Arnett ‍ -- how did you do with coloring your lace? i don't think you use imbc but did you get any viable color worked into it?

Yeah. I have one about an hour away. Cake lace comes in black so im betting we would need it precolored. I read its tricky to color.

Worse comes to worse i cover the top layer in fondant first. Not sure why we arent, i didnt take the order lol. Only just saw the design this week and think its for 2 weeks from now.

misunderstood your question and didn't know it comes in black -- I would use black royal icing to pipe lace myself if that's what you mean

Btw is royal icing ok in the fridge, on fondant?

probably -- it's ok in my fridge but it depends on the fridge and humidity where you are -- so testing it out is a good idea --

and you said 'obviously it does need to be refrigerated' but imbc and what you've already mentioned doesn't necessarily have to be refrigerated -- if there's perishable fillings then yes needs fridged but just imbc and lace doesn't -- i think a cold cake makes for a better delivery but ?

Putting colored lace on buttercream is fine....I haven't experienced any issues with color bleeding.

Coloring the mix is another story....when you add color it tends to become thick and rubbery, not a smooth thick liquid....it still works ok but it's harder to use.  You can by pre-colored mix and it too arrives quite thick and harder to spread.

i haven't tried airbrushing or other means of coloring finished lace.

This is a cake I've done some time ago. It has black lace around the bottom edge. Made it at home from scratch. The lace mix I made takes colour really well so you don't have to order it...

Oh...and the cake was fondant covered but the lace doesn't bleed at all so I would use it on my smbc covered cakes (same as imbc).

Ah so you made your own cake lace spread?? Care to share or is there a recipe somewhere? Im fairly new to lace.

Imbc tends to get really soft left out and will melt if really warm or depending on the type. Melts fast in the kitchen here, no ac. At least the recipe we use (altered imbc).

To make cake lace I mix 12g of cmc with 70ml boiling water. Then I whip one medium egg white until foamy, add 12g icing sugar, 23g corn starch and 2 tsps syrup. Next add the cmc mix and you have a lumpy mess at first. Use a spoon and press the mix against the mixing bowl. It takes a while but it comes together to a smooth paste. Apply on mat as normal and bake at 100'C for exactly 8 mins. If you need a stiff lace for a bow or so leave it in the oven for 10 or 11 mins.

It takes gel colour very well and left overs can be frozen.

Idk to be honest. It should but I've never tried it with gum text as it's not available here.
