idk every year i  toy with the idea of making something and attending Kerry Vincent's Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show -- but is it like a big crowd of people?

-- i picture it like the sales venue at ICES -- it can't be that bad can it?

plus Kerry Vincent is so meticulous  -- i mean i can copy anything commercial and i have even copied one of her cakes before but idk -- not that I would copy anything for the competition -- just saying i do have a few skills -- but I have a much different style than ms. vincent --

i mean it would be fun to work on a project especially since the time constraints are not constraining -- it's in October -- but still idk

oh gosh there's a handbag & corsage category --

i think my biggest problem is i'm not competitive in this field -- i can be cutthroat competitive playing games just not about cakes --

i should probably do a gingerbread thing for the pink palace here in memphis -- it's part of a fund raiser for a great children's hospital here -- that would motivate me more but the words 'motivation' and 'more' in the same sentence are not me either -- hahaha

plus i think the kicker is the three night stay in a hotel -- i'm not that invested in competing --

but even though i seem to have talked me out of it again this year and dragged you along w/me -- there's a few questions up there -- anybody else going ? is it a big crushing ton of people?

i think the only way for me is if this was the jumping off place for me to go visit relatives before or after

idk

it also says "VIP Metallic and luster dusts must be used...blablabla..."

i googled but did not find VIP Metallic -- must not be a brand? What is it?

the big wedding cake competition is called "mad for metallics"

thank goodness it says no bird feathers can be used -- I've been in two competitions that I can remember -- one at an office where I worked among non-decorators -- and the other was a cake one where the cake had to be commercially viable -- could be made in real time for a bride -- no painting tea cups and doilies for months -- and the chick that won used bird feathers -- c'mon!

anyway -- no bird feathers is good

K8' I entered last year as a beginner and it was a good experience for me.  At what level are you planning to enter?  Last year was the first time I attended, as well as the first time at the ICES convention

i will say, it's nice to have a project to work on.

Mary -- I would be in the professional level  -- yeah I've been to two ices shows --

where was ices last year -- was it Alabama

what did you like best about ossas -- were there big crowds -- lots of walking?

did you do the motel thing or do you happen to live close enough

and congrats to you for branching out and trying some new things -- glad you had a good time

Hi K8, ICES was in Omaha last year.

The crowds were not overwhelming.  I was there each day, and there was no crowding, or shuffling slowly past each entry.  I didn't feel claustrophobic at all.  It was easy enough to walk about.  I attended the rest of the fair too, and it was manageable.

The traffic approaching the fair was really really heavy.  If that sort of thing freaks you out, um, better take a pill.

I loved seeing the over the top creations.  It was easy to photograph the ones I liked.

i stayed at a nice hotel a good fifteen minute drive (before traffic) away.

Hope this is of some help to you and Good Luck!

thank you maryinmissour (what happened to the 'i') blush.png

no, it's not so much claustrophobia but mobility -- traffic isn't a problem necessarily I mean especially since you gave me the heads up on it --

if I really wanted to do this I should get someone to deliver my project like the purse -- not a wedding cake -- then drive up sunday -

but I think I'm gonna mix up some gingerbread and get my husband to help me make a thing for the enchanted forest for the hospital fund raiser --

I'll think about the purse -- I love doing purses --

thanks for chatting w/me

I attended once - about 6 yrs ago -  late on the last day of the show.  It was rather easy to move about the hall.
