Hi everyone!
I don't have a cake till the 7th of July so I'm just gonna hang out and admire all of yours!

Well, I've started on my large dragon egg cake. This time I'm using Wilton's chocolate pound cake recipe. I tasted some of the bits that overflowed the pan and I like the flavor better than Alton Brown's recipe (his doesn't have brown sugar, or coffee or sour cream). I tried using Baker's Joy for the first time on it, and the halves came out very easily but for a few small bits. One half threatened to fall apart on me as I was moving it to the cooling rack, so I slid the second one off on a plate, and put the rack and all on a cookie sheet and put the whole thing in the freezer. Will be finishing it some time tomorrow!
I have a cake on the 9th of July so nothing to post other than to say I LOVE the BMW cake :D
@joeyww12000 That cake is wonderful!! SO clean!
To everyone else, especially, @hep275 , please try again today. The site was really wonky last night. I think that's why there are not more postings here today. But it seems to be running better today????

OK, let's try again. Helen the novice homebaker here. I have just finished my first commission...A neighbour has been told I 'do cakes' and asked me to make one for a family get together before her youngest son (mid 20s) goes travelling around the world. He is going to Costa Rica first where he's going to learn Spanish. I gave her a price for the ingredients/cake drum/box etc and told her it would be about 4 hours labour - how wrong was I!! Even my really really simple model (all I am capable of) had to be redone several times as he was either too fat, his face too piggy looking and one night one of his legs fell off!! I have very shaky hands - family trait - and so always play safe and cut double of all the letters I will need - it took ages doing it for this cake and guess what....I didn't need any spares!!! There are flaws with this cake.....I should have thought a bit more about where I was going to position the Spanish words and put the model & rucksack; some of my sugarpaste is a bit 'leathery' looking but overall, I'm pleased with it and I hope my neighbour is ts. Fingers crossed pics post this time.....[postimage id="4288" thumb="900"]
sorry for the multiple posts but i could only upload one picture at a time with no text!

thanks guys. she has been round (9.30pm and I'm in my nightie....) loves the cake and is going to collect tomorrow when her son goes to collect grannie for the family meal!

One cake for outdoors wedding this week. All tier have different cake flavors. Gum paste roses. I had to deliver it one hour away. All the guests were already there, so I was shy and didn`t get a good picture of it.
Here's my large dragon egg cake! I put a circle of fondant on the bottom of it and that was a bad idea; it kind of slid to one side and this is the least effed-up looking side. Oh well, I learn something new every time I do one of these!
@Natka81 that's really pretty. What do you use to get the black edges?
@joeyww12000 your cake looks perfect!
@hep275 figures are so hard (I find anyways) but you did a great job :-)
@Natka81 your cake is beautiful! I like the gold on the edges.
It was a crazy week for me! I did 4 dozen sugar cookies and 4 dozen cupcakes for Father's Day, a cake and cupcakes for a first birthday, a bridal shower cake and a cheesecake.
For the cookies I did Dad and tool themes. It was my first time using these cutters so I piped a couple practice ones before the "real" ones and got quicker as I went. The cupcakes are chocolate beer batter cupcakes with maple bacon frosting.
The first birthday cake was fun to do as I made his baby shower cake last year. The red guy on top is 50/50 modeling chocolate/fondant and the 1 is gumpaste. The jumbo cupcake is his smash cake :-)
The bridal shower cake was somewhat last minute so would have liked to have somehow had more detail but it us what it is. I was really happy with my frog though.
The cheesecake was for my bro's birthday, his favorite, pumpkin marble cheesecake with a gingersnap and pecan crust. I had a fancy cake planned as he turned 40 but he requested the cheesecake. At 11pm last night when I started baking it I was happy there was no decorating to do! I didn't take pictures of it...
