I'm designing my daughter's wedding cake, and as part of the decoration, she'd like hops (her fiance is seriously into brewing).
I've found hop leaf veiners, but not sure if making the hops themselves out of sugarpaste will be possible.
Any suggestions welcome :)
I would try shaping a piece of gumpaste into almost a tear drop shape and then take a small scissors and snip it to get the look http://www.hopsandpeppers.com/service/colorado-grown-hops/. Similar to how the center was done in this tutorial https://canadiancakefactory.wordpress.com/2013/10/11/my-first-wired-flower-magnolia-tutorial/
You can make them pretty easily, I did a cake a long time ago for a brewer and it had gumpaste hops on it.
Make the basic shape and rough it on a cheese grater (small side ) then soften with your fingers. I did sea holly for my nieces wedding that way using a small 5 petal cutter for the bracts. The hop is just a fluffier version of the hop. Hope this helps
The "hop" is just fluffier than the sea holly, I mneant to say, small scissors help too.
Hi Carol,
Did you manage to make the hops? I've got to do some for my grandparents-in-law's diamond anniversary cake as they met on a hop farm. Where did you find the hop veiner and how did you make the hops?! Thanks!
