I think you may be confusing the Betty Crocker Super Moist cake mix with the Duncan Hines Moist cake mix.

Typically, Betty Crocker and Pillsbury have "pudding in the mix" and Duncan Hines does NOT typically have pudding in the mix.

IF you have Duncan Hines, not Betty Crocker, then, yes, add the pudding.  I use doctored cake mixes all the time and prefer Duncan Hines because I can choose whether or not I wish to add pudding.

Here is a fabulous pumpkin spice recipe that I found on Cake Central about 2-3 years ago and re-posted on the Wilton forum.  It has rave reviews.

The original recipe was listed online when cake mixes were 18.25 ounces in a box.  Now they are smaller, 16.5 ounces in a box.  You will need to add these ingredients to the dry mix for EACH box of the smaller (16.5 oz.) cake mix called for in the recipe.
½ cup flour
1/8 cup sugar
½ teaspoon baking powder
