Hi all!

I am co-hosting a 30th birthday party for a good friend of mine.  We usually go for simple cakes or treats, but I thought I could really surprise my friend with customized cookies (inspiration attached).  I am really excited about these cookies and would appreciate any advice as I move forward!  There are just a few challenges: 

1. The party will be held in Chicago and I will be baking in Minneapolis

2. I am fairly new to creating decorated cookies

3. I have yet to find a great sugar cookie recipe 

Any/all tips with cookie recipes/decorating/fondant tips would be hugely appreciated!  I'm also open to baker recommendations if you know someone who can do these well and ship to Chicago.
