I have a cake order for this weekend and the customer is requesting cherry chip? I have never heard of this. Is this a box cake mix or is it a homemade scratch cake mix? any ideas? thanks!

You can buy Cherry Chip in a cake mix, I am not sure which brand makes it though, I think it is Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines.

You can also buy cherry chips in bags (alongside the chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, etc.) on the baking aisle. I use them to make oatmeal cherry cookies all the time.
