Hi all, I am going to attempt a shopping bag cake for my daughters 40th birthday, and I too, like one of the ladies on here am self taught, all started as a hobby and watching the videos on youtube were my  way of learning what techniques I needed to learn to acheive the end result.... but I can't seem to find any blogs or videos on how to make the sides of the shopping bag, do you make them out of gum paste and cut them to size and let dry. or can you just cover the cake with fondant and make it look like a shopping bag.... after writing this, it sounds like the first option is the best way, but  if so. do you cover the inner cake with normal fondant, then add the gum paste outer around the cake????

Hope someone can give me some advice...

Many thanks in advance

Bev..

jjsweettooth.com under the name Mikeysha Crawford has posted a video on Youtube where she shows what she used to make the sides etc. Hope it helps you and that I understood your question.
